At the ol' ballgame...

Ryan was offered a handful of free tickets to this past Sunday's Astros (vs. Detriot Tigers) game, and of course we couldn't turn them down!  We went with several friends from church - Brian and Debbie Hummel and their boys Jake, Walker, and Hunter, and Ryne and Erin Pearson (some cajuns we've adopted...hahaha!).  So fun!

The whole time, Caleb was waiting and watching for the "choo-choo train" in the outfield to move.  Unfortunately, the 'Stros never hit any home runs, so he was a bit disappointed.  However, any time a run was scored by the home team, the train whistled so I think that made him happy a few times!

Logan did great - he enjoyed people watching, climbing on the chairs, and clapping when everyone else around was clapping as well.  We're working on him keeping his fingers out of the nose... :)

We enjoyed our afternoon at the ballpark, even though the outcome of the game didn't go our way.  I think there will be a great deal of baseball in our family's future, so it's a good thing I enjoy the game! (People watching is fun, too...)

Is it Thursday already? Wow...

Sometimes the weeks simultaneously seem to drag along and speed right by.  This is one of those weeks.  We've been busy going to doctors' appointments, running lots of errands, and generally gettin' it done.  There still seems like so much to do...
Since it is Thursday, though, here's a list of things I/we are thankful for this week:
  • Logan's 18-month appointment confirmed what we knew to be true - he is one healthy, lively little guy!  He's still on the small side for weight (maybe because he doesn't eat much at all) but is ahead of the game as far as motor skills are concerned and making great strides in speech.  Just this week he's tried out several new words.  I have to wonder if the disappearance of paci and Puppy last week has anything to do with that...hmmm.
  • My pregnancy is progressing just fine.  I'm measuring right on track, baby's heartrate is great, my weight gain and blood pressure look very good ... I just have gestational diabetes.  I finally got some new test strips for my glucose monitor, and my levels have been a tad on the high side but not horrible.  I am hopeful that I will be able to control it by modifying my diet like I did when I was pregnant with Caleb.  There's a higher chance of me continuing to have diabetes even after delivery, but we'll have to wait and see and hope for a good outcome on that end.  I'm thankful that my aversion to needles can be overcome enough for me to prick my own fingers on purpose multiple times daily! :)
  • It's been a really hot and dry summer around here.  I'm thankful that we've been able to enjoy our a/c and not have it quit on us (it did for a little while last summer...hopefully we had it fixed well enough then for it to hold out for us!  It sure has gotten a workout this year!).  I'm thankful that I have an ice maker in my fridge.  I'm thankful for sprinklers in the backyard in the evenings for the boys to enjoy.

Our father's day, a summary...

Relaxing, wrestling, tickling, laughing, sweating, sitting, pushing, pulling, riding, resting, exploring.
Loving.
And testing out Pop's wheelchair. :)

Our week...

Forgive this former meteorology major for the weather update....

They can't hardly fit the high temps for Wednesday and Thursday in the little boxes.  Doesn't this week look gorgeous?  hahahaha...
We will enjoy it - in the evenings and possibly mornings.  Otherwise, you'll find us hopping from one air conditioned area to another!
To me, it looks like a good week to spend at the movie theater.  Yep, week.  Don't think that will happen though!  (But there are a few movies out I wouldn't mind seeing.)
One more thing - that little "10%" chance of rain you see for next Sunday?  That's the first time in several weeks we've even had a chance of rain.  No rain has been felt around here in over a month - yet I know there's other parts of our country that can't get rid of the rain.  Hopefully soon it will all even out a bit!

An unexpected goodbye...

Logan, with food all over his face and hair after eating pizza recently

"So then there was this time...."
That's what we used to say when there was an awkward lull in conversation in college - somehow it broke the tension and we all became silly again.  It's funny, because that's all I can think of in starting this post!

I believe we've said goodbye to Logan's paci and his favorite "lovey", his puppy dog.  It was a tiny little puppy head attached to a small, fuzzy blanket body.  No bigger than an envelope, it was his constant companion at naptime and bedtime, and often during fussy times inbetween.

Here's how we think it happened...

Last night, Ryan was outside trying to water our parched grass, and I was inside with the two boys.  At one point, I was assisting Caleb in the boys' bathroom - you know, so he could do his business - and Logan was elsewhere.

{Cue flushing toilet noise from the bathroom at the other side of the house.  Three or four times.}

I rushed over to pull Logan out of the bathroom, and I noticed that one of his hands was wet.  He got into a bit of trouble for playing in the toilet, and we washed his hands.  He's had a bit of an obsession with flushing toilets ever since we started potty training his big brother.

Ryan came back inside, and it was nearing the boys' bedtime.  I asked Ryan if he had seen Puppy or paci, and he said no.  The last time I remembered seeing it was shortly after he went outside to water the grass, so we proceeded to turn the house upside down looking for both of these precious items.

No luck.

We even looked in cabinets that Logan doesn't even have access to, and turned the couch cushions over in pursuit of Puppy and paci.  It was just odd that BOTH items disappeared at once, and neither one could be found.

Through all of this, I have had a nagging feeling that Puppy and paci were somewhere on a water-filled 'vacation' ...but couldn't bring myself to fully believe it.  I still can't prove it, but neither one have shown up to this point.

In the end, we still had to put Logan down to bed without his favorite Puppy and without a paci - I didn't get out a new one for him, because we were going to break him of the paci habit soon anyhow.  After about 30 minutes of fussing, he did fall asleep and slept pretty well all night.
Right now, though - he's been fussing and crying for about an hour and a half (it's naptime) and I am the one missing Puppy and paci!

Wouldn't you know it ... I don't even have a picture of Puppy.  (Update: Check out this post and you'll see Puppy!  Logan is holding him in the picture where he's showing off his belly button.  Thanks, Mom/Gram for pointing that out!!)
Farewell, little friends.  Thank you for not clogging our plumbing on the start of your new adventure!

(Update:  We've had a bit of fun surrounding the supposed circumstances of Puppy and paci's disappearance...  Statements such as "Hope they enjoyed their flume ride!  Hope they didn't crash into too many logs along the way!  What a wet and wild trip they're on!  Man, they're getting one huge swirlie!" have been heard around here.  May as well have fun with it!)

Caught in the in-between...

So it is these days with the three-year-old in our house -- a little bit "big boy", a little bit "little guy" all at once.  That balance is quickly shifting to the "big boy" side, and it's exciting yet bittersweet to see him grow and become more and more independent.

Seriously, though, there's not much cuter than little tiny "big boy" undies on a little tiny "big boy" heiny.
