Pumpkin patch kids...

For several years now, I have wanted to go out to a place not too far from where we live called Dewberry Farm. It's like a fall festival held for two and a half months every year, and it's got such a neat feel to it since it's family owned and operated. They have a pumpkin patch, hayride, corn maze, rubber duck races, livestock, roller slides, corn shooters, go-karts, and sooo much more. It's definitely fun for kids of ALL ages!
Well, we went out there today. Evidently, so did most of the Houston area since the weather was so amazing! We had a great time despite the crowds (and Caleb's attitude...he was miffed nearly the whole time because there wasn't a train to ride. Poor deprived kid.).
edited 10-18: Boy did we mess up. Turns out there was a 'train' to ride...it was called the Barrel Train, and we totally missed it. Maybe next year -- and we'll ride it twice to make up for this year's mistake! I don't know if Caleb saw it and we didn't or if he assumed there would be a train to ride, but whatever the case he was right and we were wrong. {Hanging head in a tiny bit of shame}
Our first stop was at the rubber duck races. Caleb and Logan both thought this was too cool and I think we could have (maybe should have) stayed there a bit longer. The idea is that you line up four people at each of the four water pumps, and "race" your rubber ducks by pumping the water to get them to move down the pipe into a horse trough at the other end. Logan was mesmerized by the whole process.
After the duck races, Logan and I walked through the livestock barn where several animals and their young were housed. I think Logan got a kick out of the piglets -- there were two little ones in a pen, and it was all I could do to NOT say "Willlburrr" as Logan kept oinking at them! He didn't want to pet the rabbits, but you could tell he enjoyed watching them. Caleb chose to wait outside with Ryan and Toben. (Remember, he wasn't exactly Mr. Sunshine today. He's giving me a mocking grin in the picture above...)
We then headed over to the long line to wait to board a hayride out to the pumpkin patch. Both boys enjoyed the hayride, and were so excited to see the pumpkins. Logan was too funny all morning -- he was on the lookout from the time we left our driveway for any and all "pum-KINS?" However, once we got to the patch and set him down to walk through the pumpkins, he got scared. Our daredevil child didn't want to walk through the pumpkin patch! It was like Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin gone wrong. He finally warmed up to the pumpkins after Ryan got him to play "knock-knock" on them, and decided those big orange things were okay.

Probably the biggest highlight for the boys was this gigantic roller slide. They were able to go on it twice (big crowds...long lines...) and their grins say it all.
To wrap up our time at Dewberry Farm, the boys picked out some smaller pumpkins to bring home. We lined up all three boys with their pumpkins at home for some pictures ... stay tuned for another post with those to be on here soon!
